Snow Street Reminder
With forecasts indicating the potential of snow accumulations of 2 inches, the City of Bowling Green reminds residents of parking restrictions that go into effect with a city snow emergency. A snow emergency within the City may be declared if 2 inches of snow accumulates, which begins the implementation of no parking along snow streets.
If a snow emergency is declared between the hours of 7:00 am and 9:00 pm, vehicles parked on a snow street must be removed within two hours of the declaration. If a snow emergency is declared overnight, vehicles must be removed by 9:00 am. Vehicles parked in violation of snow regulations are subject to being towed at the owner’s expense and a citation may be issued. Even if you don’t live on a snow street, it is very helpful to remove vehicles from the street whenever possible. Doing so will expedite the removal of snow along the roads.
Designated streets and other winter regulations are posted to the City’s homepage.
The City has created an account to issue text alerts if snow emergencies are declared or cancelled. Those wishing to receive these alerts need to text “follow bgsnowemergency” to 40404. Text messages from this account will only be sent if a snow emergency is declared or cancelled.
Manville Waterline Project – Update
The City of Bowling Green authorized B. Hillz Excavating to close daily the 100 block of Manville Avenue, from just south of Lot M to Clough Street. The closure is required as part of the ongoing water line project and water service line connections. The closures will occur from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm each day. It is anticipated that the day closures will continue through this week. Access to City Lot M will be maintained throughout the closures.
By the latter part of the week of December 18 or the beginning of the week of the 25th, this area will be closed for at least a period of 2 days in order to allow for concrete to be placed in the areas recently excavated in conjunction with this project. Because of cold temperatures, measures must be taken to ensure the concrete remains warm enough to cure properly. Once this occurs, Manville will re-open to traffic and will be placed on the 2018 paving schedule.
Questions about this work may be addressed with the Engineering Division at 419-354-6227.
Utility Phone and Mail Scams
Bowling Green Municipal Utilities has been made aware of possible scam activities in the area. Customers have reported receiving a postcard advertising one month free electrical service, phone calls from individuals purporting to offer low cost electrical service, and having someone knocking on doors asking to see utility bills so that they could provide a quote for reduced electrical service. Residents are reminded that utilities in Bowling Green (water, sewer, and electric) are municipal owned and operated – making the utilities a “closed system”, meaning that other utility companies cannot use the infrastructure servicing Bowling Green residents.
Customers should ignore mailers and phone calls advertising other utility services as the services being advertised are not even available. Likewise, if a door-to-door salesperson is knocking on doors, customers are asked to call the Bowling Green Police Division non-emergency phone number at 419-352-1131.
