City of Bowling Green Application Process

The City of Bowling Green is an equal opportunity employer. The City only accepts applications when a specific vacancy is to be filled or when a Civil Service examination has been scheduled. ENTRY-LEVEL POLICE OFFICER

THE CITY OF BOWLING GREEN, OHIO

The Bowling Green Civil Service Commission will administer a written examination for Police Officer at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2019. Specific information about the examination process will be provided upon application.

Additionally, a Personal History Questionnaire must be completed and returned to the Personnel Department no later than April 27, 2019 (Date of exam.) The questionnaire is available by clicking here and is also available in the Personnel Department.  Lastly, an Associate Degree or the completion of at least 96 quarter hours or 64 semester hours toward a Bachelor’s Degree, is required. Proof of education is required at the time of application. The post-secondary education must be obtained from an accredited college or university. (Hours must be eligible for transfer to Bowling Green State University.)

In accordance with Section 124.41 of the Ohio Revised Code (ORC) no person shall be eligible to receive an original appointment as a police officer, unless the person has reached the age of twenty-one (21) and has not yet reached the age of thirty-five (35). (The age restriction is permitted by the Public Safety Exemption to the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (29 U.S. Code 623 (j)).

The City’s Charter provides for an additional credit of 10% of a passing test score for honorably discharged veterans. A candidates DD Form 214 of honorable discharge must be submitted at the time of application in order to be eligible for the veteran’s credit.

New employees must serve a one-year probationary period. Starting rate is $26.31 per hour. AA/EEO

WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR

Water Pollution Control Division, City of Bowling Green

(Pay Grade 5 -: $20.81 – $26.58 per hour)

(WITH A CLASS III OEPA CERTIFICATION: Grade 6: $21.85 – $27.90)

Hourly position responsible for oversight of the operation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant, ensuring effluent quality and proper/efficient plant operation. Oversees plant operations; checks equipment; performs lab tests; monitors plant via computer and plant walk through rounds; performs maintenance duties; operates trucks and other equipment; removes Biosolids (hauls sludge); collects samples; attends training; prepares /maintains documentation; performs custodial tasks and other related duties as assigned. Works both indoors & outdoors; works alone; irregular work schedules; must be available to work shift work, weekends, and holidays.   High school diploma or equivalent; Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) Wastewater Treatment Certifications preferred; valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License required or must be able to obtain within 6 months of hire; must obtain a Class I OEPA Wastewater Treatment Certification within two (2) years of hire; 3 – 5 years of relevant experience.  The job description is available by clicking here.

JOURNEYMAN LINEMAN

(Pay Rate: $35.37 – $36.62 per hour)

This position is responsible for constructing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing the City’s electrical distribution system. Operates equipment; maintains service lines; analyzes outage situations; repairs outage situations; connects new customers to electrical power; maintains street lights; informs public of work. Requirements:  High school diploma or equivalent; successful completion of a lineman apprenticeship program; Commercial Class A Driver’s License; three to five years of relevant experience. Summer Recreation Staff

Work in a fun environment while enhancing the lives of the children and families in our community!  The City of Bowling Green Parks & Recreation Department is seeking Programmers and Program Supervisors to conduct day camps, sports camps, nature camps, and Safety Town for children aged 3 ½ to 12 years of age. Pay is $8.55 – $11.00 per hour depending on position, education, and previous experience.
