Traffic Alert: Columbia Gas of Ohio to Intermittently Close Poe Road between Mercer Road and Dunbridge Road

Columbia Gas announced today that crews will intermittently close Poe Road between Mercer Road and Dunbridge Road over the next two weeks as a result of gas line work on I-75.

The closure is slated to begin Friday, April 9 at midnight and extend to noon on Saturday, April 10. It will then pick back up Saturday, April 10 at midnight and extend to noon on Sunday, April 11. Beginning Monday, April 12, crews will work from 7 AM – 5 PM each day until the project is complete.

The stretch of road will be fully open and accessible to traffic during non-work hours.

During work hours, a clearly marked detour will connect motorists to Mercer Road and Dunbridge Road via Wooster Street.

South College Closure – April 1

The Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection Division will be closing South College Street, from East Wooster to Clough on Wednesday, April 1 from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.  During the closure, the sidewalk within the work zone may be closed to pedestrians.

The closure is required in order to replace a fire hydrant.  This timeline is dependent upon progress of work and weather.

Delayed City Income Tax Filing Deadline

The City of Bowling Green is extending the tax filing due date to May 17, 2021 for 2020 tax returns to be in alignment with the IRS and the State of Ohio.  Withholding payment and reporting is not affected by this change and is still due in the time frames stated in the Ohio Revised Code and Bowling Green City Ordinances.

Income tax filings may be turned in by mail or by using the drop box located outside the building.  Forms can be downloaded from the Income Tax Division webpage located on the City’s website – www.bgohio.org/.  A list of Frequently Asked Questions is available and may help provide some guidance.

Need help completing your forms? The Income Tax Division is open to help complete your Bowling Green tax return.  Please bring a copy of your W-2(s) and your Federal tax return (Form 1040).

The Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection Division will be closing South Summit Street, from Lehman to Palmer on Wednesday, March 24 from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.  During the closure, the sidewalk within the work zone will be closed to pedestrian traffic and parking will be removed.

The closure is required in order to repair a sewer lateral.  This timeline is dependent upon progress of work and weather.

B.G. Transit Provides Free Rides To/From Vaccinations

The City of Bowling Green announces, to the public, free B.G. Transit rides to and from COVID-19 vaccination events (including the one scheduled for March 23 at the Bowling Green Training and Community Center).  It is recommended requests for transportation be made at least 24 hours in advance of the time needed and passengers must tell the call-taker the transport is for a COVID-19 vaccination to receive the free fares to and from the location.  Call-takers will then verify the destination as eligible in order to provide free fare approval.  It is preferential your return trip is made at the same time.  To schedule a ride, call 1-800-579-4299.  Call 419-354-6203 for added information about the B.G. The B.G. Transit is fully accessible to persons with disabilities, and open to all for use. In service for 33 years, hours of operation are Monday through Friday 6:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturdays 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.  For rides originating and ending within Bowling Green’s corporation limits, the general fare (one way) is $4.00. For rides originating and/or ending outside the city limits, the general fare is $4.50. With a transit ID card, half-priced fares are available to persons aged 65 years or older, children (4-13 years of age) and those with disabilities.  For more information about the B.G. Main Street Tree Work – Week of March 15

As part of the street tree inspections last fall, trees within the 100 block of North and South Main Street were determined needing removed and replaced.  This work is scheduled to take place next week and will require a temporary closure of the sidewalk within the work zone and the removal of parking.  It is possible that traffic may be restricted temporarily as well.  Work is scheduled to begin on Tuesday (March 16) morning at 8:00 am and last until approximately noon.  This work will continue the next day on Wednesday (March 17) with stump removal and the planting of new trees.

This schedule is subject to change depending on progress of work and weather.

Coventry Subdivision Paving

The street improvement project within the Coventry Subdivision will soon begin.  Public Works will begin this project by repairing catch basins along Devonshire, Cobblestone, Somerset, and Tamarac.  It is anticipated that this initial phase of the project will last approximately one month.

Later this spring/early summer, Public Works will remove sections of old, broken curb ahead of a contractor pouring new replacement curbs where old sections were removed.  Public Works will also upgrade the ADA ramps to include proper slope, grade, and ADA warning strips later this spring/early summer.

The final phase of this project will occur this summer when a paving contractor will be onsite to repave these roads.

West Merry Closure – March 2

The Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection Division will be closing West Merry Avenue, from N. Grove to Main, and posting the area no parking, on Tuesday, March 2 from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.  Work may carry over into March 3.
