Wintergarden/St. John’s Nature Preserve Controlled Burn
Periodic fires have been conducted in the nature preserve since 2000. These controlled burns have greatly enhanced the natural habitat for wildlife and assist with plant management – efficiently removing non-native invasive species that invade our local habitat and shade out native plants. Controlled burns are considered a natural resource manager’s most cost-effective tool for managing a natural habitat.
Given the correct weather conditions, the nature preserve will conduct a prescribed burn this spring to maintain the prairie grasses and flowers. Questions about this may be directed to the Naturalist Office at 419-353-0301.
News from ODOT: I-75/Wooster Street Roundabout Project
Construction of the I-75 and Wooster St/SR 64 interchange project has been progressing with minimal impacts to traffic thus far. However, in order to construct the rest of the bridge and the roundabouts on either side of I-75, there are some upcoming impacts to Wooster St/SR 64’s traffic flow.
Monday, April 15 through Sunday, May 19, only eastbound Wooster St will be permitted over I-75. Westbound Wooster St traffic will be detoured using Dunbridge Rd to Poe Rd to Mercer Rd. This is to construct the southern part of the bridge over I-75.
Beginning with that restriction and going through July, the ramp from Wooster St to northbound I-75 will be closed. The detour will be Dunbridge Rd to US 6 to I-75. All other ramps will remain open.
Immediately after the eastbound-only phase, through July, Wooster St over I-75 will be closed to all traffic. All traffic will be detoured using Dunbridge Rd to Poe Rd to Mercer Rd. This is to construct the roundabouts.
Brush Collection – Schedule between April 1-8
The window to schedule an April brush collection will be open from April 1 to April 8. Residents requesting brush collection should call 419-354-6227 no later than April 8 so that they may be added to the list of locations where crews will stop. Collection is scheduled to begin on April 15.
Current restrictions for brush collection remain – such as the size of tree limbs and no yard waste (grass clippings). Residents are encouraged to visit the Public Works Division webpage or 419-354-6227 for program details.
