Wastewater Treatment Plant

The Bowling Green Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) is rated as a Class IV treatment facility by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.

Plant History

The current WWTP was placed into operation in 1982 with a rated capacity of 8 million gallons per day (MGD) average daily flow (ADF) and 16 MGD peak hydraulic flow (wet weather). Treatment is achieved through preliminary, primary, secondary, and tertiary treatment processes with aerobic digestion of the waste biosolids.

In the late 1990's the WWTP replaced the chlorination disinfection system with an ultralviolet disinfection system for cost efficiency and  the safety concerns associated with chlorine.

In 2005 the WWTP completed a plant expansion that included (2) additional aeration tanks,  (1) high effeciency blower, a septage receivng station and an aerobic biosolids system which produces a Class A biosolids. This expansion increased the plant capacity to 16 MGD (ADF) and 20 MGD wet weather flow.
