Schedule & Holidays
Important Refuse/Recycling Collection notes:
- The Normal Four Day Refuse Collection schedule for the City of Bowling Green is Monday thru Thursday during non-holiday weeks. The following is subject to change due to weather or other circumstances. Watch for additional details in the newspaper or call the Public Works Department at 419-354-6227.
- If a holiday falls on a Saturday, the City will observe the holiday on Friday and this has no effect on the refuse collection schedule. If a holiday falls on a Sunday, the City will observe the holiday on Monday and this will delay the normal refuse collection schedule by one day that entire week.
Monday Holiday:
- All normal refuse collection delayed one day that entire week.
Tuesday Holiday:
- Normal Refuse Collection will occur for Monday but the remainder of the week will be delayed one day.
Wednesday Holiday:
- Normal Refuse Collection will occur for Monday and Tuesday but the remainder of the week will be delayed one day.
Thursday Holiday:
- Normal Refuse Collection will occur for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, but Thursday's collection will be picked up on Friday. (Except for Thanksgiving when Thursday will be collected on the Wednesday prior to Thanksgiving Thursday).
Friday Holiday:
- No effect on the Refuse Collection schedule.
2012 PUBLIC WORKS SCHEDULE
January 2012
Holiday (New Year's)- Sunday, January 1. Holiday will be
observed on Monday January 2, 2012. Normal refuse collection
delayed one day this week.
Christmas tree pickup week of January 9.
All Christmas trees must be curbside on Monday, January 9 at 7am. There will be one citywide sweep of all four wards as pickup is by Ward NOT refuse collection day. Once the crew has completed a street, they will not return.
Holiday (Martin Luther King)- Monday, January 16. No Refuse collection. Refuse collection delayed one day entire week.
February
Holiday (President's Day)– Monday, February
20. No refuse collection. Refuse collection delayed one day entire
week.
April
Remove winter decorations from Oak Grove Cemetery by the first Monday in April.
The Spring brush collection will not occur.
May
Heavy item pickup begins week of May 7. All items must be curbside on Monday, May 7.
Holiday (Memorial Day)–Monday, May 28. No refuse collection. Normal refuse collection delayed by one day this week.
June
July
Holiday (July 4th)– Wednesday, July
4. No refuse collection. Normal refuse collection for Wednesday
and Thursday delayed by one day this week.
August
Heavy item pickup for August will not occur.
September
Holiday (Labor Day) – Monday, September 3. No refuse collection. Normal
refuse collection delayed by one day this week.
October
Fall Brush Pickup beginning Monday, October 1. All brush must be curbside on Monday, October 1, but no sooner than Monday, September 24.
Fall leaf collection begins October 22. Several passes of the city will be made as needed.

November
Holiday (Veteran's Day)–Sunday,
November 11. Holiday will be observed on Monday November 12.
Normal refuse collection delayed one day this week.
Decorations must be removed from Oak Grove Cemetery by the first Monday
of November.
Holiday (Thanksgiving)-Thursday, November 22. No refuse collection. Thursday's refuse collection will be on Wednesday, November 21.
Friday, November 23- City offices closed.
December
Holiday (Christmas)- Tuesday December 25.
No refuse collection. Normal refuse collection for Tuesday,
Wednesday and Thursday delayed by one day this week.
Heavy item pickup for December will not occur.
