NOTICE OF CIVIL SERVICE EXAM

FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC

 

The City of Bowling Green is accepting applications from September 19 thru October 5, 2016 for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic. This position is responsible for fire suppression, prevention, and emergency medical service for the protection of life and property. Applicants must be certified by the State of Ohio as a Paramedic at the time of application and appointment.  Copies of paramedic certification must be provided at the time of application.  Within 12 months of appointment, those persons hired must become certified as an Ohio Firefighter II.  Each candidate will be scheduled to take the physical agility test on one of the following dates: October 13 or 14, 2016 beginning at 7:30 A.M. on those dates.   Candidates who successfully pass the physical agility exam, will be invited to sit for the written exam at 8:00 a.m. on November 5, 2016.     Ohio law (ORC 124.42) and City regulations provide that no person shall be eligible to receive an original appointment in the fire service unless the person has reached the age of eighteen (18) and has not reached his/her forty-first birthday.  Credit for military service will be granted in accordance with the requirements established in ORC Section 124.23(C). Firefighter/Paramedics must serve a one-year probationary period.  School Police and Substitute School Police-Adult Crossing Guards (Pay $12.00 per crossing worked, Not to Exceed $36.00 per day)

The City of Bowling Green is accepting applications for “School Police” (Adult Crossing Guards).  Applicants for the “School Police” vacancy must be available to cover the crossing at Sand Ridge Road and South Church Street. 8:25 a.m. – 9:10 a.m. and 3:20 p.m. – 3:40 p.m. Monday through Friday during the school year.  Applicants for “Substitute School Police” must be available to work at any of the City’s designated crossings given short notice.

Programmers (Fall Sports Programs)

Rate of Pay $8.10 per hour

The Bowling Green Parks and Recreation Department is seeking an individual to join the fall programming staff and work with boys and girls ages 3 ½ through 14.   The position will require flexible availability both mornings and afternoons with mainly weekend and evening assignments.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, organizing and teaching/coaching multiple sport and recreational activities; and scorekeeping and officiating. Background in basketball and volleyball helpful; and a genuine interest in working with youth needed. The Bowling Green Parks and Recreation Dept is seeking motivated outgoing individuals to be a part of the Community Center Fitness and Kiwanis Kids Club team as Programmers working as Fitness Desk Representatives, Kiwanis Kids Club Staff and Special Programmers working as Certified Personal Trainers! The responsibilities of these positions include greeting patrons, assisting patrons with exercise, caring for children, cleaning fitness equipment, ensuring rules are being followed, and providing first class customer service. Special Programmer / Facility Caretaker-$8.10 per hour

The Bowling Green Parks and Recreation Dept is seeking motivated outgoing individuals to open and close facilities. Experience with customer service in a park setting beneficial. Able to lift 25 pounds, must be 18 years of age. Complete assignments with minimal supervision. Duties include but not limited to:

  • Arrive 15 minutes before scheduled start time and open facilities for rentals.
  • Check set up sheet for all Simpson rentals to double check the room is set correctly and they have everything listed on the set up sheet.
  • Speak with person renting facility and help them with any questions about their rental facility upon check in.
  • Fill out and submit required paperwork.
  • Check doors, windows, thermostats and turn off lights.
  • Lock facilities at end of rental.
