Stewards of Children Education Training

Location: Simpson Building located on 1291 Conneaut Avenue
Ages: 18+

Darkness to Light’s Stewards of Children is a revolutionary sexual abuse prevention training program that teaches adults to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse.  The program believes and teaches that child safety is an adult’s job.  Participants will receive a Stewards of Children workbook and a “7 Steps to Protecting our Children” booklet.  Child sexual abuse is a widespread problem that occurs frequently enough in our culture to be considered an epidemic.  The effects of child sexual abuse trickle down and have a negative impact on our communities as a whole.  Local and national statistics regarding child sexual abuse and its effects on our community will be included in this training.  Most children are sexually abused by someone they know.  In order to protect our children the adults in the community must be educated about the problem.  This is a valuable training for anyone who works with children and for parents and community members who are interested in helping prevent child sexual abuse.  This training has been approved for 3 continuing education credits for Ohio Social Workers, Counselors and Nurses. This is a free program but you must register by calling JoAnne Carson at 419-292-2927 ext. 306 or jcarson@fcapc.org. Please call 419-354-6223 for questions or further information.  Register by August 25.

Square dancing provides cardiovascular exercise that can burn as many calories as walking, jogging or riding a bicycle. As you execute movements you exercise your brain, keeping it sharp and quick. In addition, square dances are like parties providing fun opportunities for social interaction. Western style square dancing has standardized movements done throughout the USA and all over the world. This beginning class will teach you all the basic movements needed to successfully square dance and no special equipment or clothing is needed. Class will not meet on November 2.
